The Torrent Closures Bartop stoppers are made from biopolymer or wood, and other noble materials, in their upper part (or crown) and microgranulated natural cork in the lower part.
This line of closure solutions offers a sophisticated product that guarantees our customers security against counterfeiting, sustainability in the production process and a better user experience for the end consumer.
Features of the use of biopolymer
Biopolymer is currently a widely used material in the food industry: it is easily handled and is a raw material whose source is natural and renewable.
At Torrent Closures, we use the biopolymer (specifically, biobased polypropylene) for the manufacture of the crown, or the upper end of our Bartop stoppers.
Together with natural wood or aluminium, these are the two features which we recommend to our customers for the crown of their Bartop solution, as it means the product will be 100% sustainable.
Polypropylene is a material in high demand from industries as it lends itself well to moulding and injection processes.
The benefits of microgranulated cork
The lower part of our Bartop stoppers can be made of natural or microgranulated cork. In this sense, the microgranulation draws on the many strengths of natural cork with the addition that it enables certain limitations of this fine material to be eliminated. For example:
- The microgranulate is more sensitive and allows a better adaptation to the product. In other words, by fully controlling the internal manufacturing process of microgranulated cork, we adjust to the specific needs of the customer. In this way, a product with better performance is made.
- The natural microgranulation preserves the quality of liqueurs and spirits because it maintains the positive properties of a fine, natural and renewable material such as natural cork, with the advantage that it eliminates some disadvantages (TCA, low productivity, porosity and the impossibility of adapting the product, amongst others)
- It prevents cork being wasted as all the material is used.
- This reuse of the material not only makes Torrent Closures more sustainable, as we reduce waste, but it also helps us to be more competitive in production costs and, therefore, in prices for our customers.
