At Torrent Group, we are taking a further step in our commitment to sustainability and social responsibility by joining the United Nations Global Compact. This UN-driven initiative aims to promote sustainable business development through the adoption of universal principles in critical areas, such as human rights, labor standards, environmental protection, and anti-corruption efforts.
By joining the UN Global Compact, Torrent Group is embedding these principles even deeper into our corporate strategy and daily operations. Through this commitment, Torrent advances its vision of a sustainable business, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), paving a clear path toward creating long-term value—not only for the company but for society and the planet at large.
This affiliation with the UN Global Compact strengthens our role as a responsible actor within the business sector, promoting practices that foster positive environmental impact and contribute to global social and economic well-being. For Torrent Group, this membership is not just a notable achievement but also an opportunity to actively engage with today’s global challenges.
About the UN Global Compact
The United Nations Global Compact, also referred to as the Global Compact, stands as the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative. Launched in 2000 by then-UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, the platform is designed to align business strategies and operations with ten universal principles in areas including human rights, labor standards, environmental stewardship, and anti-corruption.
Under UN leadership, the Global Compact also promotes the integration of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within the business environment, encouraging greater corporate responsibility and contributing to a sustainable future for all.
With more than 12,000 organizations across 170 countries, has created a global network of companies and institutions dedicated to building a more sustainable and equitable future.
Notable Kenyan Companies Participating
In addition to Torrent Group, several major companies in Kenya have also joined the Global Compact, committing to uphold these principles and contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Leading examples include Safaricom, Equity Bank, Kenya Airways, KCB Group, and Bidco Africa.
